I have always been one of those people who would go to the gym solidly for a few months and then take the rest of the year off – mainly due to me getting bored of going in and doing the same things repeatedly. I heard about Will’s group sessions at the gym and started training with him in February 2019. Will gave me a nutritional plan tailored specifically to my plant based diet and a workout plan for me to complete outside of the classes; both of which complemented my goal of gaining weight from 71kg to 75kg. I managed to reach this target weight by the end of July thanks to Will! Will’s sessions were incredible – each session was varied and he balanced the sessions so your whole body would get a workout in terms of strength training and conditioning. I needed a new goal and decided to compete in 5 Spartan races across the UK throughout September/October with a total mileage of 42+miles. Will’s previous experience of representing Britain in sport as well as completing endurance races such as the Ironman were so helpful as he could relate to what I was going through during my training. We increased the intensity of the workouts and added more specific things to the plan such as grip strength training which is crucial for any obstacle course race. Will started up a weekend park run in the local park and I was joining him for this as well. He is an expert when it comes to running technique and advised me on how to gradually increase my mileage to prepare for the races. I did unfortunately get injured in the lead up to my first race and Will was there to help me through. Thankfully, he is vastly experienced in sports massage and we spent our last few sessions pre-race working on recovery. I am the strongest and fittest I’ve ever been and that is thanks to Will. I never thought I would have been able to accomplish any of these goals and I look forward to seeing what our next year of training will bring!
Case Study
Harshan’s primary body goal was to put on muscle weight and gain in size. He was already consistently working out as well as being a regular at my group training sessions. His commitment and hard work had meant that he had already seen a huge transformation in his body shape, now we just needed to make some refinements.
In true Harshan style, he had set himself a big running goal. He wanted to complete three Spartan races in one weekend; the ‘Beast’, the ‘Super’ race and then the sprint straight.
We mixed things up with his personal training sessions and added in some smaller races to act as ‘stepping stones’ to the big ones. Come race weekend, Harshan was truly Spartan ready and I am pleased to say he came away with all three medals, the Spartan Trifecta’. As you can see, he was all smiles at the end of the weekend.
